Create a Living Easter Wreath for Your Home

Spring is here – lambs are in the fields, the sun is shining, and our gardens are awakening. create a Living Easter Wreath for your home to celebrate life! I create a Living Easter Wreath to welcome in spring. It adds a pop of colour, fragrance and natural charm for the Easter holidays.

Hanging a beautiful living Easter wreath on your door is a simple way to decorate your home for Easter. You only need a handful of supplies. All of them are easily available. In less than an hour, you’ll be ready to join in the festive celebrations. It’s so simple that you can even get your children involved over the holidays – they’ll absolutely love it!

In March’s edition of I Love North Shields, I wrote an article on how I create a sustainable Easter wreath. This post presents a more traditional version. The best part? You can reuse some of the materials repeatedly. The wreath ring, moss, and florist wire are all repurposed. This approach makes it both sustainable and budget-friendly.

Once you’ve used your supplies to make the wreath, you can even plant the flowers in your garden afterwards. Under the right conditions, violas and pansies will return each year, self-seeding and spreading throughout your flowerbed.
Violas and pansies aren’t just pretty faces—they’re edible too! Your living wreath adds a cheerful pop of colour and natural fragrance to your front door. It’s also practical. You can snip off a few blooms to decorate cakes, brighten up salads, or garnish drinks. A beautiful and delicious addition to your spring celebrations!
The fresh blooms on this Living Easter Wreath will welcome you home with their natural perfume. Their bright colours are sure to put a smile on your face. Best of all, they invite wildlife into your garden. Let’s get creative!

Creating A Living Easter Wreath
What You’ll Need:
- Florist wire
- Metal wreath frame
- Wire cutters
- 3 packs of violet or pansy plug plants
- Moss
- Easter decorations
How to Make a Living Easter Wreath:
- Remove the plug plants, wrap each one in moss, and secure in place using florist wire.
- Arrange your moss-covered plants on the wreath ring. When you’re happy with the placement, wrap them with florist wire to secure them. Attach the florist wire to the wreath ring. Then, wrap it carefully around the entire wreath. Continue until you return to the starting point. You can repeat as many times as needed. Do not crush the plants with too much wire!
- Attach any Easter decorations using florist wire, water the wreath lightly, then hang it in place.
How to Keep Your Living Easter Wreath Fresh:
- Water your wreath every 2–3 days, depending on weather conditions. Remove it from the door. Lay it on its back to water. Leave it for 10 minutes before hanging it back up.
- Pinch out any dead flower heads to encourage new blooms.
- Remove dead leaves to keep the wreath looking green and vibrant.
- In ideal conditions, your Living Easter Wreath will stay fresh for up to a month.
